L.A. Galaxy build bears and deliver smiles

The Galaxy made a visit to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles on Thursday to deliver holiday cheer.

CARSON, Calif. - The Los Angeles Galaxy visited patients at Children's Hospital Los Angeles today, delivering 100 Soccer Santa Bears, smiles and holiday wishes. The bears, dressed in full soccer uniforms and Santa hats, were built on Wednesday by Galaxy players and volunteers at the Build-A-Bear Workshop located at Downtown Disney, courtesy of the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation.


At Children's Hospital, the Galaxy players, along with Miss L.A. Galaxy Candice Hansard, went room-to-room visiting with the patients and their families and handing out the Soccer Santa Bears. In addition, the players took photos and signed autographs with each child.


"Participating in activities such as yesterday's Build-A-Bear event and today's Children's Hospital visit is a pleasure, not only for our players but our staff and volunteers as well," said Gloria King, Community Development Manager and Galaxy Foundation Director. "It is a small way for us to give back, not only to those in need, but also to those who support us and the Galaxy Foundation year-round."


The Galaxy Foundation's holiday schedule will culminate with its seventh annual Holiday Assist Program on Saturday, December 9th from 7-9am at the Torrance Mervyns. Forwards Landon Donovan and Alan Gordon, midfielder Peter Vagenas, defender Troy Roberts, goalkeeper Steve Cronin will join Galaxy Foundation volunteers and shop with 50 children in need, as they are treated to a $100 shopping spree and holiday party.


The Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation, the charitable arm of the Los Angeles Galaxy, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and creating educational, health and recreational activities and programs for youth in the greater Los Angeles area, with a specific focus on disadvantaged and at-risk children. Through fundraisers, programming and partnerships with committed organizations, the Galaxy Foundation is working to improve the lives of youth and make positive contributions to our community.
