Kick-it at the park L.A. with Chivas USA

LOS ANGELES - In the first of a citywide series of clinics to bring soccer to the City's youth, Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, councilmember Ed P. Reyes, Chivas USA President and CEO, Shawn Hunter, and John Kirk Mukri, general manager of the Department of Recreation and Parks, will lead the opening ceremony for 'Kick-it at the Park L.A. with Chivas USA'.

The opening ceremony and the first set of clinics will be held at Rio de Los Angeles State Park on Saturday, January 12. As part of his goal to promote youth development and improve conditions that contribute to youth participation in criminal activity, Mayor Villaraigosa developed an affiliation with Chivas USA of Major League Soccer, a professional soccer organization known for its commitment to bolstering the lives of Southern California youth through sports training and play.

Throughout the year, 40 different sites will offer clinics for up to 600 community youth ages 5-15. There is $5 fee per individual per clinic that will entitle each participant to 90 minutes of instruction by Chivas USA coaches, a soccer ball, a Chivas USA clinic T-shirt, one voucher for a free Chivas USA game ticket, and a certificate of completion.

At clinic sites, families will be invited to learn more about nutrition, health and how they can improve their every-day lives by non-for-profit agencies offering relevant information to the community.
