The KCW Juniors U-19 team continued a successful U.S. Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championship for the program with a 3-1 victory Tuesday over the Chicago Fire Juniors to propel Kansas City into the championship game. The KCW Juniors will face cross-state opposition in Wednesday's title match in the form of St. Louis-based Scott Gallagher's U-19 side. Kansas City and Chicago played scoreless soccer for the first 70 minutes before Kansas City exploded for three goals in a five-minute span and went on to win 3-1.
College teammates found each other often during the KCW Juniors' scoring outburst. Midfielder Willie Koss (Graceland University) opened the scoring for The Juniors in the 72nd minute, then assisted a strike from forward Giovanni Edward (Graceland University) two minutes later. Midfielder Colton Henning (Furman University) then served a ball in to forward Curt McDonald (Furman University) for a header goal in the 77th minute to cap the scoring. Chicago scored a goal in second-half stoppage time to break up the shutout attempt by goalkeeper Scott Angevine (Coastal Carolina).
Overall the three KCW Juniors teams have gone 5-1-4 in Midwest Regional play. The U-16s went 1-0-2 and the U-17s were 1-1-1. The U-19 team is 3-0-1 heading into Wednesday's title game.
