KCW Juniors announce 2008-2009 rosters

The KCW Juniors announced today 2008-2009 rosters for the U-13, U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-18 teams. After fielding three teams in 2007-2008, the Juniors will expand the program to include five full-time teams for the 2008-2009 season. Each summer, the Juniors will also field a U-19 team so college-aged players can continue training under the Wizards umbrella during the off season. The U-19 team won the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Championship Wednesday to qualify for the national tournament July.

"We are extremely happy with the rosters we have put together for each of our five teams," KCW Juniors Director of Coaching Jon Parry said. "Our first season was extremely successful in terms of player development, and we look forward to continuing that progress."

The 2007-2008 season was an extremely successful inaugural year for the KCW Juniors program that included a runner-up finish in the inaugural Soccer United Marketing U-17 Cup, three Kansas State Cup championships, three trips to Regionals, one Regional champion and a trip to nationals by the U-19 team. The Juniors will again compete in the SUM U-17 Cup this year, held July 3-10 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in conjunction with the adidas Elite Soccer Program (ESP) showcase event.

The KCW Juniors program is made up of 111 young men from Kansas, Missouri and Iowa. The Juniors come from over 50 different schools. Each KCW Juniors team will practice a minimum of three times per week at the Wizards Swope Park Training Center. Speed, strength, agility and conditioning will be major focuses of KCW Juniors training. Kansas City Wizards Fitness Coach Dave Tenney and Scott Moody, founder and CEO of Center for Athletic Performance (CAP), will oversee training regiments for all Juniors teams. Juniors goalkeepers will also receive goalkeeper-specific training.
