KC Wizards Open Tryout policies, procedures

The first-ever Kansas City Wizards open tryout will be held this Saturday and Sunday at KC Sports Lodge in Independence, MO. Nearly 250 participants have enrolled for the chance to earn a professional contract with the Wizards and Major League Soccer. The first session starts Saturday at 9 a.m. Participants are asked to arrive one hour prior to their scheduled start time to allow for registration and proper warm-up. Proof of age, insurance, payment and waiver forms are required before an individual can begin the tryout.

Each participant will get approximately 45 minutes of field time over a one-hour, 30-minute session. Four teams of 10 will play 5v5 games in each 1.5-hour session.

Following the end of each time slot, we ask that participants not loiter to watch remaining sessions, as space is limited at KC Sports Lodge. Spectator areas will be available but limited, so we ask that spectators not loiter after their friends or family members are done playing. Space will be reserved for media members.

Referees will be present, and participants are asked to control themselves at all times. The Wizards reserve the right to dismiss anyone from the tryout that is engaging in behavior that is dangerous to the individual or any other trialists. Serious foul play will not be tolerated.

Trialists are required to provide their own athletic apparel including sports-appropriate clothing, shin guards, socks and soccer-appropriate shoes. (Turf shoes are encouraged, but cleats and tennis shoes are acceptable.) The Kansas City Wizards are not responsible for personal items that are lost or stolen during the tryout. Participants are encouraged to bring only what they need during their time on the field and leave all remaining items in the car. The Wizards will provide soccer balls, goals and water.

After all sessions are complete Saturday, a list of players invited back for Sunday's session will be posted at kcwizards.com. Hard copies of the callback list will also be posted at Extended Stay America and KC Sports Lodge (30 minutes after the final session). All cuts are final and non-negotiable.

Sunday's session will begin at 9 a.m. and feature the same format as Saturday. Following the tryout, Kansas City's coaching staff will determine if any players will be brought back into camp at a later date. If a player or players are invited back, they will train with the first team with the chance to be offered a professional contract. Results of the tryout will again be posted at kcwizards.com, Extended Stay America, and KC Sports Lodge (details below).
