Kansas City Wizards travel to Dick's Sporting Goods Park for first time in team history

Currently in second-place in the East, the Kansas City Wizards (4-2-0, 12 pts) travel to Commerce City, Colorado to take on the Colorado Rapids (3-2-2, 11 pts) Saturday, May 19 at 8 p.m. CT in brand-new Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Colorado currently sits in first place in the Western Conference. Kansas City comes in after a 2-1 loss against FC Dallas last Saturday. Colorado beat New York 1-0 on the road last Sunday.


Saturday's match, 8 p.m. CT on HDNet, will be the first-ever meeting between the clubs in the Rapids new stadium. The Wizards are 4-12-4 all-time at Colorado, with all previous matches coming at Mile High Stadium or Invesco Field at Mile High. Kansas City is tied for the MLS lead in away wins thus far, having secured away victories at D.C. United and Toronto FC.


Wizards Assistant Coach Chris Henderson will be honored by Colorado at halftime of the game. Henderson spent 6+ seasons with the Rapids, playing in 178 games for the club and recording 31 goals and 53 assists. He will be the third player ever inducted into the Rapids Gallery of Honor. The First 5,000 fans into the stadium Saturday will receive a commemorative Chris Henderson mini-poster celebrating the occasion.


The Wizards (2nd in MLS in scoring) will look to attack a Rapids squad that has allowed the fourth-most goals this season. Kansas City leads the league in average goals scored per road game (2.0) while Colorado sits fourth-to-last in MLS in goals allowed per home game (1.5).


Kansas City next plays Saturday, May 26, at 5:30 p.m. CT on Metro Sports against the New England Revolution in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The game is part of an international doubleheader in which Ireland takes on Bolivia at 3 p.m. CT. New England and Kansas City currently occupy the top two spots in the East and MLS. They are the two highest-scoring teams in MLS.
