Kansas City Wizards host first-place Red Bull New York Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium

Two of Major League Soccer's hottest teams face off Saturday at 7 p.m. at Arrowhead Stadium as the Kansas City Wizards (5-2-1, 16 pts) battle the New York Red Bulls (5-1-2, 17 pts) in a battle for first place. New York sits one point ahead of the Wizards in a first-place tie with the New England Revolution.


New York enters the match on a two-game winning streak in which they have outscored their opponents 7-0. The match-up will pit one team's strength against the other's. New York has the league's best goals against average (0.50). Kansas City leads the league in goals scored per game (2.00). Also, New York has posted a league-high six shutouts so far, and Kansas City has not been shutout since August 16, 2006 (17 games). Finally, The last two MLS Player of the Week winners will also face off in strikers Juan Pablo Angel of New York (Week 7) and Eddie Johnson of Kansas City (Week 8).


The match promises to be exciting until the end. Kansas City has scored a league-high 5 goals in the final fifteen minutes of games this season. Half of New York's 4 goals allowed this year have come during that same stretch.


The Wizards Reserves will play the Red Bulls Reserves at 9 a.m. CT Sunday at the Sprint World Headquarters in Overland Park. The KCW Reserves are 1-2-1 on the year.


Kansas City's next game comes Saturday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m. CT on Metro Sports in New York. The Wizards have a bye next week. New York will play two matches in between the meetings with Kansas City.
