Julie Bornemann is Crowned Miss L.A. Galaxy

Julie Bornemann has been crowned Miss L.A. Galaxy 2008.

CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, October 16, 2007) - Julie Bornemann from Edwardsville, Ill. is the newly crowned winner of the Miss L.A. Galaxy 2008 contest, presented by CoverGirl. As part of her award she earned a $1,000 cash prize courtesy of CoverGirl, CoverGirl makeup, a day of beauty at JW Goodson's Salon in Long Beach, crown and sash.


The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising student defeated nine other finalists in the contest, held on the main concourse of The Home Depot Center prior to the Galaxy-Toronto FC match on Saturday, October 13.


A National Honor Society member, Bornemann was a leader in over 15 clubs in her high school and received a 2000/01-03 Service awards for outstanding contributions to school activities. She was also a 2005 Miss Illinois USA pageant Finalist and "Best in Bikini" award winner, as well a Miss Hawaiian Tropic Finalist for St. Louis.


In the community, Bornemann has been active with over 300 charities in the St. Louis area. She attended over 50 charity events to either photograph or to help raise money for the non-profit organizations. In addition, she volunteered in classrooms alongside her mother who taught children with autism. She was a spokeswoman for a special segment on CNN called Giving Thanks, with which she traveled to West Virginia to help prepare Thanksgiving dinners at homeless shelters.


Among her hobbies, she enjoys cooking, sports, reading, dancing, sketching, and drawing, volunteering for non-profits, sewing, school, working out, tennis, road trips, acting, modeling, hanging out with friends and family and shopping.


Those named to the Miss L.A. Galaxy court were: 1st Runner Up - Audrey Ronquillo - $500 cash Prize, tiara and sash, 2nd Runner Up - Caitlin O'Connor - $200 Cash Prize, tiara and sash, 3rd Runner Up - Lyndsay Pratt - $200 Cash Prize, tiara and sash. Meanwhile the Fan's Choice Winner Audrey Ronquillo also received a $100 cash prize.


All finalists, including the 2008 court, received a gift bag of items, Cover Girl makeup and a free haircut by salon owner, Allan Dun of JW Goodson's Salon in Long Beach.


The Miss L.A. Galaxy contest was created to recognize females who are involved in their community, support community soccer and the Los Angeles Galaxy. The winner was chosen based on her poise, confidence, public speaking abilities and academic success.
