Joseph suspended, fined; Martins fined

The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee today suspended New England Revolution midfielder Shalrie Joseph one game and fined him $500 for violent conduct in the Revolution's 1-0 loss to the Chicago Fire on Sunday, Oct. 22. MLS also fined the Colorado Rapids forward Thiago Martins $250 for the violent nature of his conduct that led to his red card in the Rapids 2-1 loss to FC Dallas on Saturday, Oct. 21.


Joseph was involved in an incident with Fire midfielder Ivan Guerrero in first-half stoppage time in which he struck Guerrero with his elbow. After further review of the incident, the disciplinary committee handed out the one-game suspension and fine. Joseph will miss the second leg of the Revolution's playoff series versus the Chicago Fire on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.


Martins received a red card for violent conduct against FC Dallas defender Clarence Goodson in the 88th minute of the Rapids 2-1 loss. The red card carries an automatic one game suspension and $250 fine. After further review of the incident, the disciplinary committee handed out the additional fine. Martins will miss the second leg of the Rapids playoff series versus FC Dallas on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
