Individual tickets for August 9 sold out

Washington, D.C. (August 6, 2007) - D.C. United announced today that all tickets for the August 9 game versus the Los Angeles Galaxy are now sold out. The final 400 seats were purchased through a collection of ticket plans, including the pro-rated season packages, corporate hospitality offerings, and the D.C. United Coaches Symposium.

"While United enjoys the best fan support in Major League Soccer, the crowd attending Thursday night will be exceptionally large and include many people who've not yet seen D.C. United play," said United Executive Vice President Stephen Zack. "United has worked with our partners at the Metropolitan Police Department, Metro and others in order to create the most efficient and pleasant flow of fans to and from the stadium for this historic event. It is important to us that all of our customers enjoy the game and desire to return for future matches."

The expected 45,000 attendants will rank third in the All-Time MLS Attendance standings for RFK. A club-record 57,431 fans packed RFK to witness United's second MLS Cup title in 1997. Since that time, more than 11,000 seats have been removed to accommodate Major League Baseball configuration, leaving the building's current capacity at slightly more than 45,000. August 9 will mark the largest crowd to witness a D.C. United regular season home game not part of a double-header.

Due to the high volume of fans, United has tips for patrons to ease the trip to and from RFK:

  • Fans are encouraged to arrive early; parking lot 8 will open at 2:00 p.m. on game day, while other lots will open at 3:00 p.m. and stadium gates will open at 5:00 p.m. D.C. United asks drivers to allow extra time for travel as gates open during peak rush-hour traffic. Though traffic will also be adversely affected by the closure of the South Capitol St. Bridge, additional police will be present on the Southeast-Southwest Freeway and in the parking lots to aid the flow of cars. Additionally, an on-site commander will be assigned by the Metropolitan Police Department to provide on-site police management.

  • D.C. United recommends that fans utilize Metro, which will be running special six- and eight-car trains for the event. RFK Stadium is located at the Stadium/Armory stop on the Orange and Blue lines.

  • After the game, free shuttles will be available to transport Metro users from Lot 3 to Union Station for Red Line and Amtrak access.
