Houston Dynamo lock up forward Brian Ching with new contract

Brian Ching scored 11 goals for Dynamo and was the MLS Cup MVP in 2006.

HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo have reached an agreement with Forward and MLS Cup Most Valuable Player Brian Ching, it was announced today.

Per MLS and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We are very excited for Brian and his desire to continue his career with our organization", said Dynamo President and General Manager Oliver Luck. "We look for continued success with (Ching) as the leader of our offense."

"I love this team, and want to continue playing in Houston. What we did last year was just a taste of what the Dynamo can accomplish in the future. I am looking forward to continuing to build on the success we showed in 2006", said Ching.

Ching had a breakout year in 2006, leading the team, along with Dwayne De Rosario, in goals scored in regular-season play with 11, including a spectacular bicycle kick against D.C. United on September 30, 2006 that sent Houston to its first-ever playoff appearance. This goal went on to be selected as the Sierra Mist MLS Goal of the Year. He also scored three more goals during the post-season, including the tying goal against the New England Revolution at MLS Cup. Ching also tallied 2 assists in 21 regular-season games played, and was the team's lone representative in last summer's FIFA World Cup in Germany.

The Dynamo open up its regular season on Sunday, April 8, against the Los Angeles Galaxy, in a game slated for 6:00 p.m. CT. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please call the Houston Dynamo Ticket Office, at 713-276-7500, or log on to www.houstondynamo.com.
