Houston Dynamo-Colorado Rapids quote sheet

COLORADO RAPIDS 1, HOUSTON DYNAMO 0
COLORADO RAPIDS HEAD COACH FERNANDO CLAVIJO

On the winless streak:
"It's funny because we started this streak against this same team at home 3-1. We played well at home; it was a bit complicated at the end with that red card. Anytime you can get a win against a first-place team at home, it's something that can make you feel comfortable. We are pleased with the effort."

On holding possession:
"We kept the ball extremely well; the only problem is that possession doesn't always equal goals. We created a lot of chances from the right and left. It was [Terry] Cooke's best game in the last 10 for sure, and we created a lot of chances. This team has fought through adversity and has won, and I have said all along that we are a tough team and we will battle through it."

On the red card:
"I have a very hostile team in the locker room. The red card, I thought should have been a red card, but I think there should have been one in the other direction. But you can't blame the referee. You have to be able to go out there and play and keep your composure, and come away with the win."

On the status of Facundo Erpen:
"Erpen is injured from the last game; he had a 102-degree temperature before the game and he has been sick. ... Niko [Hernandez] has been struggling, just like the rest of the team. We keep moving and keep giving the rest of the players opportunities to play in the games."

On the play of his goalkeeper:
"Bouna [Coundoul] was a wall, he played well. He controlled the game, managed the game and played well. This win goes to the team. It's good that I see this team rallying behind the coaches. It just goes to show the unity amongst us and the team. It's good to see good friends are backing you up when tough times are around."

COLORADO RAPIDS MIDFIELDER TERRY COOKE

On the result:
"This game was a real confidence booster. It was nice to see everyone playing well together. We got lucky enough, the chances went our way and we got the bounce and the ball went in."

On how the team stuck together:
"The most important thing is that everyone worked hard and worked for each other, and that's been the difference in the season."

On the new formation:
"The 4-4-2 formation worked well. There was a balance on the team tonight and you could tell the difference in the game as a result of that."

COLORADO RAPIDS MIDFIELDER COLIN CLARK

On topping Houston:
"Beating the defending champs was great, they are a classy team. Tonight we won the individual chances, and we got lucky, but we deserved it."

On what ws different Saturday:
"We have been unlucky the last couple games, the breaks haven't come our way. Tonight the breaks did go our way with the own goal, and that was the difference. We all played hard and worked well together and I believe we deserved the win tonight."

HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On the loss:
"I am surprised tonight because we didn't win. We are making mistakes now where we haven't been before. We have lost seven games this year, they were all 1-0 and that's the difference in the game when you make mistakes."

HOUSTON DYNAMO GOALKEEPER PAT ONSTAD

On the loss:
"The difference tonight was that it looked like Colorado wanted it more. I made the mistake of shanking the ball for a corner kick which was unacceptable and ultimately it cost us. Colorado just looked like they wanted it more tonight."

HOUSTON DYNAMO FORWARD BRIAN CHING

On what losing means:
"It's something that we need to look at and take responsibility for. If you look at some of the other teams around the league, we don't do well."

On what's next:
"Our upcoming schedule is tough; the teams we've got to play are going to be 10 times tougher than the last two teams we've played. We better change our style of play around quickly if we want to have a chance at winning in SuperLiga."
