Houston Dynamo acquires forward Joseph Ngwenya from Columbus

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Dynamo have acquired forward Joseph Ngwenya from the Columbus Crew in exchange for forward Alejandro Moreno, it was announced today.


Ngwenya will be available to play in Houston's game against Toronto FC on Wednesday, May 16.


"We think the world of Alejandro and wish him the best with his new team," said Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear. "At the same time, we are excited about bringing Joseph in, as we feel he will add a great dose of danger, athleticism, and depth to our offense."


A native of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Ngwenya started his MLS Career with the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2004. During his stay with this team, he scored 4 goals and distributed 2 assists. He was traded to Columbus in 2006, where he scored 5 goals and distributed three assists. The Coastal Carolina University Alum holds various records at a school level, among them career shots (290), goals (63), and points (157).


Moreno, on the other hand, was an important part of the puzzle in Houston's historic run to the MLS Cup Championship in 2006. The 5-year MLS veteran was third on the team in 2006 with 21 shots on goal. He also had two game-winning goals and one game-winning assists. Throughout his career, which has spanned stints with the Los Angeles Galaxy and the now-defunct San Jose Earthquakes, Moreno has scored 23 goals and tallied 16 assists.
