Guerrero named to Honduran national team

San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Ivan Guerrero has been named to the Honduran National Team for two upcoming World Cup qualifying matches and two friendly matches. Guerrero will travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to begin preparations with the team on Sunday, May 25.


Honduras will play four matches over the next three weeks. The Catrachos first play Venezuela on Friday, May 30 in Fort Lauderdale in a friendly match. Following that game, Guerrero and his teammates will travel to Honduras to face Puerto Rico in the home leg of their World Cup qualifying series. The match takes place on Wednesday, June 4 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.


Three days after facing Puerto Rico on June 7, Honduras hosts Haiti in La Ceiba, Honduras in another friendly. Honduras then plays Puerto Rico in the away leg of the two-game series on Saturday, June 14 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Guerrero will then return to the Bay Area on Sunday, June 15 to rejoin the Earthquakes.


Guerrero is expected to miss the Earthquakes matches on May 31 at Real Salt Lake, June 7 at Columbus and June 14 against the Los Angeles Galaxy at Oakland Coliseum.


Guerrero has appeared in 79 matches and scored three goals during his international career for Honduras. The native of Comayagua, Honduras has made appearances in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the UNCAF Nations Cup and World Cup qualifying. He was last called up to the team for a friendly match on March 26, 2008 when Honduras defeated 2-1 Colombia in Fort Lauderdale. He did not see action in that game.
