Galindo's sports hernia surgery successful

Chivas USA's Maykel Galindo successfully underwent surgery Wednesday for a sports hernia on his right side. The 27-year-old Cuban forward, who led Chivas USA in scoring last season, could be out of action for up to eight weeks.

Galindo's surgery was performed by Dr. Richard Cattey at St. Mary's Ozaukee Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Galindo played in Chivas USA's 2-1 loss to the New England Revolution on May 11, and has been sidelined since with pain in his right groin. Prior to this season, Galindo underwent surgery with Dr. Cattey in January for a sports hernia on his left side.

A native of Villa Clara, Cuba, Galindo enjoyed a breakout first season in Major League Soccer in 2007, scoring 12 goals and adding five assists in 28 regular season games for Chivas USA, finishing the season as the club's leading scorer. So far in 2008, Galindo has played seven games for Chivas USA (starting five), scoring one goal and adding two assists in 484 minutes.

Chivas USA squares off against Real Salt Lake on Saturday night, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. at The Home Depot Center. The Red-and-White have won four straight matches against its fellow 2005 expansion side, including a 3-1 win in the Home Opener of the 2008 season, on April 5.
