Galaxy launch Spanish Web site

The Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday launched a brand new Spanish-language Web site, www.lagalaxy.com/espanol.

The site includes all of the features found on the club's English-language site, such as exclusive video and audio, stats, standings, community news and a fan forum. The site will continue to grow after launch, with more features due to be added. Like the rest of the Web sites on the MLS Internet Network, the Galaxy's Spanish site features independent editorial content.

The audience for a Spanish-language Galaxy Web site certainly exists. According to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau data, 1.7 million Hispanic people live in the city of Los Angeles, the second largest Hispanic population of any city in the country, and 1.4 million people living in Los Angeles speak Spanish at home. Additionally, Los Angeles County has the largest Hispanic population of any county in the nation, with 4.6 million Hispanic residents.

As with the MLS Web site and the sites for 11 of the league's 13 teams, the Los Angeles Galaxy Spanish site is operated by Sports on Earth, LLC. An offshoot of MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM), Sports on Earth powers a host of sports and entertainment Web sites not directly tied to MLB.com or the official baseball club Web sites. The company provides original editorial content, audio and video highlights, and design and technical support, as well as marketing and sales support.
