The LA Galaxy were defeated by the Vancouver Whitecaps, 2-1, on Tuesday night in front of 37,104 fans at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Canada. Whitecaps forward Nicholas Adderly and Eduardo Sebrango scored for Vancouver, while Galaxy forward Alan Gordon netted the club's lone goal just before halftime.
In the 4th minute, the Whitecaps took an early lead with a goal from Adderly beating Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Wicks with a low shot inside his right post. Galaxy midfielder Josh Tudela lost possession about 25 yards from goal after a heavy touch saw the ball fall for Adderly, who wasted no time in giving the Whitecaps a 1-0 advantage.
One minute before the end of the first half, Galaxy forward Alan Gordon tied up the game at 1-1. David Beckham played a long cross into the top of the box for Gordon who beat a charging Whitecaps goalkeeper Srdjan Djekanovic to ball heading it into the open goal to level the score.
In the second half, Los Angeles came out and dominated the possession creating several scoring opportunities. The Galaxy's best chance coming off a through ball from Tudela for Jordan, who broke in behind the defense beating the keeper before questionably being called for offside, negating the goal.
In the 66th minute, the Whitecaps took a 2-1 lead on a beautiful strike from forward Eduardo Sebrango, who fired a first time shot past Wicks at the left post. Midfielder Justin Moose picked up a loose pass and found forward Nick Webb up the right wing. Webb dribbled in behind the Galaxy defense and played a low cross just above the six yard box for Sebrango to slot home.
The Galaxy pushed for an equalizer, but it was not to be with Wicks making a string of saves at the other end to keep the Vancouver advantage at 2-1.
The LA Galaxy will return to MLS action on Sunday, May 18 when they face FC Dallas at 12 p.m. (PT) at Pizza Hut Park before returning home to face the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday, May 24.
