Galaxy completes first day of open tryouts

CARSON, CA - The Los Angeles Galaxy today finished its first day of open tryouts, with over 800 participants playing in 40 matches over nine hours. The teams of 10 participated in seven-versus-seven matches, in which trialists had 60 minutes to showcase their skills for the Galaxy coaches and assembled support staff.

Open tryout participants came from over 40 states and all over the globe to try their luck at joining the Galaxy for preseason training prior to the 2007 MLS season. Great Britain was the most heavily represented foreign nation with 50 players in attendance, while Sweden and Japan were also well represented with seven and five players respectively.

Galaxy President and General Manager Alexi Lalas and Head Coach Frank Yallop rotated fields throughout the day in order to get a first hand look at the participants' talent. This allowed Lalas and Yallop to see as many players as possible and provide everyone in attendance the best opportunity to potentially earn a call back.

Players who were identified by Galaxy support staff will be invited to a second day of trials on Sunday. The day will once again begin at 8 a.m., and will feature matches between the remaining participants.
