Galaxy 1, United 1 -- quote sheet

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET
SATURDAY, JULY 17, 2004 - D.C UNITED 1, LOS ANGELES GALAXY 1

D.C. UNITED HEAD COACH PETER NOWAK

On the game:
"It is no doubt about it, there was a lot of heart out there today. The boys want to be in first place and they will get there. I am really proud of the team and, sooner or later, they will get there. Overall, I am pretty happy and proud of the team. Big complement."

On the penalty:
"I didn't receive any explanation on the goal. I don't think we were too physical with them. I think we should do better."

D.C. UNITED MIDFIELDER BRIAN CARROLL

On the game:
"I thought we played solid. L.A. played smart, they got their goal back and then they defended well, and we were never able to put our second one away."

On the team's level of play:
"I thought we played good, we were expecting a win. We got a tie."

D.C. UNITED FORWARD JAIME MORENO:

On the game:
"It was a very hard game, very complicated. We didn't play well. We got a point, but at home, we should have won."

On his performance:
"I was not very happy with my performance. I didn't create any goal situations and I think that, if I don't do that, I'm the first one to notice that."

D.C. UNITED GOALKEEPER TROY PERKINS

On L.A.'s goal:
"You never want to say a goal is fair. On the original goal, they were offside. The referee called a penalty and they scored."

On his performance:
"I thought I played well. The field was very sloppy and that complicated many balls, but I think that the team also played solid, good defense and we just couldn't score a second one."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY HEAD COACH SIGI SCHMID

On the game:
"I thought our team showed a lot of character. We lost Tyrone (Marshall) in the first half due to an injury, we lost Andy (Herzog) at halftime due to injury, so we had to mix things around and mix and match and I thought in the second half, even though it didn't show stat-wise, we carried the game for the first twenty minutes. I couldn't be prouder of these guys."

On playing three games in one week:
"Yeah, I mean, we've played three games this week. Their game in midweek was an exhibition so it's different. For us to play three games in a difficult environment, against a difficult team that wanted to get back at us after what happened the last time we were here, is indicative of what's inside this team this year. "

LOS ANGELES GALAXY FORWARD JOVAN KIROVSKI:

On the tie:
"We're on a good run now, we haven't lost in five games I think. So yeah, it's a good point away from home, definitely."

On the fatigue factor of multiple games in one week:
"Yeah, we're tired, but for me personally, I came on in the second half. I had a little bit of break so it was OK for me. But overall, it's definitely a good result after a midweek game."

On the upcoming Open Cup match:
"It's an important game. We want to go as far as we can in the Open Cup and we're taking it very seriously, and we hopefully get a win."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY MIDFIELDER ANDREAS HERZOG

On the team's performance tonight:
"The last 20 minutes, for us, I think was OK, but we didn't play well. But one point is good for us."

On fatigue being a factor:
"No, I don't think [fatigue was a factor], but I think now we have to focus on playing like we did before. We had a good offense in the beginning of the season and we'd like to return to form."
