Fresh starts benefitting Chivas strikers

Alecko Eskandarian has been revived since joining MLS Cup contender Chivas USA.

not just the midfield but defensive midfield -- and next week as a forward. Coming in here but my main focus is to be a forward and score goals."

Eskandarian, meanwhile, arrived in Utah during a season that saw him move from D.C. United to Toronto FC and from the expansion club to Real Salt Lake. While continuity is key for Eskandarian, injuries could force him to the sidelines.

"I still might need surgery next week. I just kind of fought through the pain (Saturday)," Eskandarian said. "We'll re-evaluate and see what I need to get better but (Saturday) was one of those cases where Ante was out with injury so I told Preki 'If you need me, I'm available.' I'm glad I got to get in and had an impact on the game."

Whether Eskandarian requires surgery will be up to tests he has taken on his ailing groin.

"That's what we're kind of waiting on and we'll see what happens," he said. "I was happy to play through but I know (Saturday) I was probably at 75-80 percent. I want to get 100 percent as fast as I can."

As for the win, Eskandarian said he agreed "100 percent" with Preki's assessment of the squad.

"It was pretty ugly, especially the first half," he said. "We have a lot, a lot to work on. We can't get ahead of ourselves at all. It's great that we got the three points but we still have a lot to work on to get to where we want to be."
