First XI: The strangest rivalry

Giovanni Savarese

Youri from an impossible angle -- and send fans home happy.

3. And one more bone to Metro fans. You had a stretch there where you were giving the Revs all they could handle. In 2004, all the games were tight and you were even able to come from two goals down on Sept. 11, to win a game 3-2 at Giants Stadium. Cornell Glen (remember him?) scored the winner off the bench and Metro had actually split the season series with the Revs, going 1-1-2.

2. Back to reality. The devastation of the aforementioned 2002 trade is felt on the last day of the regular season, as the Revs beat Metro 3-0 to win the East with a .500 record and, a day later when Chicago beats Columbus, Metro are out of the playoffs.

1. Of course, you all know where it starts, with the infamous Nicola Caricola 90th-minute own goal, in the MetroStars inaugural home opener. And rumor has it that a construction worker in Harrison who happens to be a Revolution fan has buried a Darren Sawatzky jersey in the concrete beneath Red Bull Park! That should add some fuel to this unique rivalry.
