First XI: First day of school

Eddie Gaven

you'll have to watch the highlights yourself to figure it out -- but there's nothing that brings out the TV critic in me like a soccer announcer who's talking about something irrelevant as someone on the field is scoring a goal. This isn't basketball, where you've got points going up all game long. Nail the goals. Nail the chances. That's Soccer Announcing 101.

2. Toronto is going to be competitive. As I said above, Guzan had to come up huge for Chivas to keep that game 0-0, and I think Toronto FC showed they will be fully competitive this year. For that matter, I think it's apparent that Real Salt Lake is now up to MLS caliber, and Columbus is on its way too. This week, we get our first look at another team that's missed the playoffs each of the past two seasons, the K.C. Wizards, and if they look as improved as I'm guessing they are, well, then game on. May the best team win.

1. MLSLive.TV is the best deal in sports. Let me just say, in closing, that this column would not have been at all possible without the work that MLSLive.TV has done in making a sweet package available for under $20. Last summer, I watched MLS games from my hotel lobby in Hamburg, Germany. This year I watched from the Masters. Add on the fact that highlights are up almost instantaneously, and it's hard to beat. World class stuff on the part of the webmasters. If you don't have it already, buy it today.
