Fire reserves fall 5-4 to United reserves

The Chicago Fire Reserves lost 5-4 to the D.C. United Reserves today at the TOYOTA PARK practice field in Bridgeview, Ill.


Fire forward And Herron opened scoring in the second minute of play, beating a defender one-on-one and finishing inside the 18-yard box for a 1-0 lead. In the 10th minute, United was called for a ball handled in the box and Herron tallied his second goal of the day with the ensuing penalty kick.


Second half substitute Fire forward Calen Carr added to the lead in the 49th minute, slotting home from eight yards out to bring the score to 3-0. United answered back three minutes later, as forward Franco Niell finished in the 52nd minute for a 3-1 score.


United midfielder Ryan Cordeiro brought United back into the game with a goal in the 61st minute, and D.C. midfielder Rod Dyanchenko tied the contest at 3-3 with a goal in the 69th minute. United defender Marc Burch struck from 15 yards out in the 72nd minute to give the visitors a 4-3 lead.


In the 79th minute, the Fire pulled even after Carr beat a defender and sent a ball into the box to forward Brad North, who finished with a point-blank range tap-in. Two minutes later, United forward Quavas Kirk answered with a low shot into the left side of net for the game-winning goal.


The day's result brings both the Chicago Fire Reserves and D.C. United Reserves records to 2-2-0 (6 pts.) for their 2008 Reserve Division campaigns.
