Fire Reserves beat Rev Reserves, 2-1

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - John Thorrington notched the game-winning goal and an assist to lead the Chicago Fire Reserves past the New England Revolution Reserves, 2-1, in a Major League Soccer Reserve Division match held at the TOYOTA PARK practice field.

Thorrington broke a 1-1 deadlock in the 81st minute with a successful penalty kick, extending his scoring streak to four Reserve matches. Brian Plotkin rang a shot off the post to open scoring in the first half before New England's Sainey Nyassi answered in the 63rd minute on a low shot in the box.

Revolution goalkeeper Doug Warren kept the game close with a pair of saves on Calen Carr in the second half. Carr was one of four players who saw action in last night's MLS match, joined by teammate Bakary Soumare and New England's Andy Dorman and Abdoulie Mansally.

The New England Reserves (6-4-1, 19 points) play host to the Columbus Crew Reserves next Sunday (Oct. 14) while the Chicago Fire Reserves (2-6-3, 9 points) will meet the Chivas USA Reserves in a make-up game to be announced in the coming weeks.
