•Woolard tallied the first goal of the match in the 36th minute, finishing on a bouncing ball sent into the area by midfielder Logan Pause. Woolard waited for the ball to bounce over the head of midfielder Pat Carroll, and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Zach Wells, coming off his line.
•Tonight's goal is Woolard's first-ever first team goal
•D.C. equalized in the 77th minute as midfielder Luciano Emilio sent a ball from the right side of the end line into the box. Doe ran onto the ball and finished on opportunity from 12-yards out.
•D.C. United went up in the 9th minute of the first overtime period as Moreno took corner kick and Namoff ran to the near post for the header goal.
•Head Coach Denis Hamlett made six changes to the starting line that he used against the Cleveland City Stars; only five players started both games (Woolard, Banner, King, Rolfe, and Barrett).
•The Fire are now 1-1-0 in all-time Open Cup play versus D.C.
•Logan Pause returned to the lineup for the Fire after missing two league games due to injury.
•Tonight's attendance at the Maryland Soccerplex was 4,118.
•Chicago Fire head coach Denis Hamlett on the match: We had some very good looks and, our guys have to step up to the plate and finish those chances, because at the end of the day that's what this game is about. We create chances and we're not finishing those chances.
•Chicago Fire midfielder John Thorrington on the match: I think it's just the same old story. It's the same thing that happened on Saturday. We got up deservedly through our play and doing what we were supposed to do, implementing a game plan, go up a goal and had chances to make it more than one - we don't capitalize on those. We make a bad mistake, they capitalize - one on one - and they score on a set piece in extra time. You can't fault anything effort-wise. I think everybody that was out there left it on the field, but it's disappointing to put so much in and come away empty handed.
•The Chicago Fire will return to MLS action on Saturday, July 12, as they host Toronto FC at TOYOTA PARK (7:30 p.m. CT, FSC).
