Fifteen FCD players available in 2006 MLS Expansion Draft

FRISCO, Texas - FC Dallas announced today its list of 15 players that will be available for selection in the 2006 MLS Expansion Draft, which will be held for the League's 13th team, Toronto FC, on Friday, Nov. 17 at 12 p.m. CT. Each MLS side is allowed to protect 11 players from their 28-man roster in addition to any youth player protected through their Generation adidas status. Toronto FC, which plays its inaugural season in 2007, may select a maximum of one player from each of the 12 MLS team's unprotected player list during the 10-round draft.


The 11 FCD protected players are:


Goalkeepers (2): Shaka Hislop, Dario Sala
Defender (1): Drew Moor
Midfielders (5): Arturo Alvarez, Richard Mulrooney, Ramon Nunez, Ronnie O'Brien, Marcelo Saragosa
Forwards (3): Kenny Cooper, Carlos Ruiz, Abe Thompson


Toronto may select any ONE of the following FC Dallas players:


Goalkeeper: Ray Burse Jr., Jeff Cassar
Defenders: Michael Dello-Russo, Chris Gbandi, Clarence Goodson, Justin Moore, Bobby Rhine, Greg Vanney, Alex Yi.
Midfielders: Aaron Pitchkolan, Simo Valakari, David Wagenfuhr
Forwards: Roberto Mina, Dominic Oduro, Alex Smith


Dax McCarty and Blake Wagner are currently classified as Generation adidas players and thus remain protected. Drew Moor and Ramon Nunez, who graduated from the program at the end of the 2006 season, were protected by the team and will count as Senior Roster players moving forward.


Each team was permitted to make only one Senior International player available for the Draft. FCD protected Ruiz, Hislop, and Saragosa, who by turning 25 in 2007 will automatically count as a Senior International.


Toronto FC player classifications

  • Domestic players - Canadian citizens or Canadian permanent residents
  • International players
    • Up to four Senior Internationals (non-domestic players who turn 25 years or older during the year).
    • Up to three additional Senior Internationals who would qualify as Domestic players on a U.S.-based MLS team.
    • Five Youth Internationals (up to 24 years old); two of these slots expire at the end of the team's 2008 season.
