FCD takes two in Supplemental Draft

FC Dallas made two selections in this afternoon's MLS Supplemental Draft. With today's selections and the five players chosen in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 18, FC Dallas will open preseason camp in February with at least seven rookies.

With the 22nd overall selection in the second round, FC Dallas selected Yannick Reyering, a forward from the University of Virginia. In 56 career games for the Cavaliers, the German-born striker scored 39 goals and added 10 assists. After scoring 13 goals in 2007, Reyering was named a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist in addition to receiving All-ACC First Team and NSCAA All-South Region Second Team honors.

In the third round, FCD selected SMU midfielder Ben Shuleva with the 36th overall selection. Shuleva, who spent the first two years of his college career at St. John's University before transferring to SMU, started 66 of the 78 games in which he appeared, scoring five goals. As a tri-captain of the Mustangs in 2007, Shuleva was named to the NSCAA All-Midwest Region First Team and All-Conference USA First Team after recording three goals and one assist.

Aaron Pitchkolan and Abe Thompson were the first players in Dallas history to make the team's roster after being selected in 2005, the first year of the Supplemental Draft. With its two picks in last year's Supplemental Draft, FCD selected Sandy Gbandi and Chase Wileman, with both spending the 2007 season on the FCD Developmental roster.
