FRISCO, Texas - FC Dallas announced today that it has waived forward Alex Smith. Smith is now available for selection by any of the other 12 MLS clubs in a waiver draft that will be held later today.
Smith signed with FC Dallas on July 19 after training with the club for most of the first three months of the season. The 21-year old, former SMU star did not see any action with FCD's first team in either the regular season or the postseason but did play the final three minutes of the team's 2-0 win over Tigres in the first leg of the Rio Grande Plate on July 19.
Smith appeared in eight of FCD's 12 Reserve Division games, making six starts and playing a total of 478 minutes. Smith scored his only goal for the FCD Reserves on September 10 in a 2-2 draw at Chivas USA.
