The Kansas City Wizards (3-5-4, 13 pts) hosts Real Salt Lake (5-5-4, 19 pts) Saturday for the second and final time in 2008. Kansas City earned a 0-0 draw June 7 at Real Salt Lake behind a strong effort from goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, who made a season-high seven saves on the night. Fans are encouraged to leave early for the match due to construction surrounding CommunityAmerica Ballpark, heavy foot traffic at The Legends and exciting pre-game activities.
Before the game, Disney Channel star Selena Gomez will be on hand signing autographs and taking pictures beginning at 5:30 p.m., presented by Panasonic. Gomez stars as middle child Alex Russo in a magically gifted family on the Disney Channel show "Wizards of Waverly Place".
Former U.S. Women's National Team star Brandi Chastain will also be at the match, signing autographs beginning at 6 p.m. CT. Chastain appeared 192 teams for the Women's National Team, scoring 30 goals. She also converted the decisive penalty kick in a shootout against China in the 1999 Women's World Cup final.
Real Salt Lake enters the match 3-0-2 in their last five games, with the home tie against Kansas City representing one of two non-wins. The Wizards enter after earning a hard-fought 0-0 tie at Toronto FC last Saturday. Kevin Hartman made four saves, and the Wizards back line was outstanding in limiting Toronto to just seven shots on goal. Hartman is tied for the MLS lead with five shutouts this season and has an MLS-record 72 career clean sheets.
Real Salt Lake forward Yura Movsisyan, assistant coach Brian Johnson and General Manager Garth Lagerwey all have ties to Kansas City. Movsisyan was traded from the Wizards to RSL late in 2007, and both Johnson and Lagerwey spent parts of their playing career in Wizards colors.
