Newcastle fans are hoping Kevin Keegan's return to the St James' Park hotseat after more than a decade away will be "the first building block" in a return to happier times on Tyneside.
Mark Jensen, editor of Newcastle fanzine The Mag, is hopeful that with the backing of billionaire Magpies owner Mike Ashley, Keegan can make the team challengers for silverware again, as they were during his first spell in the mid-1990s.
"The important thing to remember is that this is just the start," Jensen said.
"Having Kevin Keegan back is very much the first building block in what could be a very successful Newcastle United.
"The fans have been dragged down and it did need somebody, not just for the short term but for the long term, to get everybody excited again.
"Keegan can attract players, and what he didn't have before was the backing behind him.
"For a short time he did, but this time he has Mike Ashley behind him and I think that is about the best thing that has happened to Newcastle, Mike Ashley coming in and taking over the club."
Jensen did not expect a role among Keegan's backroom staff for former club captain and record goalscorer Alan Shearer, who Keegan signed for £15million in 1996.
"Personally I don't expect it, by the bits and pieces that I hear. But then again who would have thought Kevin Keegan would have come back to Newcastle United?" Jensen told Sky Sports News.
"First things first, Kevin Keegan is the most important thing at this moment in time, and it's about how he gets the team responding."
Keegan's appointment is sure to create a feelgood factor among fans of the club who have been starved of success for so long, and Jensen predicts a great reception for him when they face Bolton at home on Saturday, with an FA Cup third-round replay at Stoke almost certain to come too soon for Keegan's unveiling.
"There will be a guaranteed full house against Bolton for the fans to be able to respond. This could be the start of our season," Jensen added.
"Kevin Keegan did great things when he was here before, he started off with a win over Bristol City in his first spell as manager, so more of the same hopefully.
"It will be a special moment."
