Eskandarian joins Toronto FC

Toronto FC announced Friday that they have acquired forward Alecko Eskandarian from DC United in exchange for a partial allocation. As per club policy, financial details were not disclosed.

Eskandarian, 24, a native of Montvale, New Jersey comes to Toronto FC after 4 seasons with DC United.

After suffering a season-ending concussion in 2005, he returned to top form last season, scoring 7 goals, and adding 2 assists in 22 games. He was the lone goal scorer in DC's friendly against Real Madrid in August. For his play he was made an MLS All-Star as a Commissioner's Pick.

In 2004, Eskandarian hit double digits in goals (10), the first DC United player to do so since 2001. That same year he was named MLS Cup MVP after scoring 2 goals (one unassisted) to defeat Kansas City 3-2 in the final.

On the International stage, Eskandarian was named to the U.S U-23 National Team for CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament, scoring 4 goals. He earned his first cap with the United States in May of 2003.

In 2002, he was named Soccer America's College Player of the Year while attending the University of Virginia. The forward set a UVA record for most goals in a single season (25) and finished tied for second all-time with 54 single-season points. With 50 goals to his credit, Eskandarian ranks fourth on the all-time Virginia list and his 15 game-winning goals is the third most for a UVA player. He went first overall in the 2003 SuperDraft, selected by DC United.
