Edu, Wynne Off To U-23 Camp

Toronto FC announced Wednesday that midfielder Maurice Edu, and defender Marvell Wynne have both been named to the U.S. U-23 Men's National Team roster.

The 22 man roster was announced by U.S U-23 Head Coach Peter Nowak, and is the first major camp in preparation for the final round action of the 2008 Mens's Under-23 Championship to be held from March 11-23, 2008 in Los Angeles, Tampa and Nashville. The eight team tournament will send the two finalists to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

"I'm excited for both players to gain some more experience at the international level," said Head Coach Mo Johnston. "Both of them have worked very hard this past season, and they deserve it. I'm sure it will be a great trip to China, something they'll always remember."

The squad will train for one week at the Home Depot Centre in Carson, California beginning on December 2nd, and then depart for China on December 8th in preparation for their two exhibition games against the Chinese U-23 team. The U.S will meet the hosts on Thursday December 13th, at the Changsha He Long Sports Centre in Changsa, and then again on Sunday December 16th at the Yue Xiu Shan Stadium in Guangzhou. The Americans will head back home to California the following day.

Wynne will join up with his teammates straight from the Generation Adidas tour of Spain that kicked off November 24th in Madrid. The defender was one of 16 players that took part in training sessions at the "City of Futbol" complex, home of the Spanish National Team, as well as Real Madrid's new training complex. The squad also participated in exhibition matches against other Spanish teams Reserve squads that included a 1-0 victory against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday where Wynne played the full 90 minutes. The defender's last call-up to the U.S MNT was this past July when he was part of the Copa America tournament in Venezuela where he earned his first cap.

Edu, the MLS Rookie of the Year was called up to the U.S. MNT just recently in November when they defeated South Africa 1-0 in a friendly in Johannesburg. The midfielder earned his 2nd cap for the squad after making his debut in a 1-0 victory in Switzerland a month earlier.
