NICOSIA - Czech Republic sealed first place in Euro 2008 Qualifying Group D with a comfortable victory in Cyprus on Wednesday night.

Daniel Pudil put the visitors ahead early on before Jan Koller sealed the points 16 minutes from time.

That was enough to ensure the Czechs take the Group D crown irrespective of Germany's result against Wales because of their head-to-head record.

Romania completed their Group G campaign in style as they thrashed nine-man Albania 6-1 to secure their place at the top of the pool.

After taking a first-half lead through Nicolae Dica, Romania scored five goals in a devastating 20-minute spell in the second half.

Gabriel Tamas put them 2-0 up before Debatik Curri was dismissed for a second-booking and Daniel Niculae put Romania in control before Edmond Kapllani pulled one back for Albania.

Nicolae then added a second before Ciprian Marica slotted away a penalty and, when Nevil Dede was shown a second yellow card for bringing down Marica, Dica scored his second from the spot to complete the rout.

Late goals from Blagoy Georgiev and Dimitar Berbatov ensured Bulgaria signed off a solid but ultimately futile qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win in Slovenia.

Elyaniv Barda scored the only goal with a first-half header as Israel edged out FYR Macedonia in Group E while, in Group B, goals from Andrius Ksanavicius and Mindaugas Kalonas gave Lithuania a 2-0 win against Georgia.

In Group A, Sergey Ostapenko's first goal for his country saw Kazakhstan beat Armenia 1-0.

A first half goal from Nihat Kahveci was enough for Turkey to qualify for the finals as they beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-0 in Istanbul and secured second-spot in Group C.

Steffen Iversen grabbed a hat-trick and Morten Gamst Pedersen was also on the scoresheet as Norway won 4-1 in Malta, but that result still wasn't enough as they finished a point behind Turkey.

European Championship holders and group leaders Greece celebrated their qualification for next summer's finals after an own goal from Vilmos Vanczak a penalty from Angelos Basinas gave them a 2-1 win in Hungary for whom Akos Buzsaky opened the scoring.

Wales ended their Group D campaign with a creditable goalless draw with Germany, who had already qualified, while Slovakia ran out 5-0 winners away to San Marino.

Northern Ireland's Euro 2008 dream ended as Xavi's second-half goal condemned them to a 1-0 defeat in Spain, who had already qualified from Group F.

Sweden also secured the victory they needed over Latvia as Marcus Allback and Kim Kallstrom goals either side of a strike from Juris Laizans gave them a 2-1 win.

In the other game in the group, goals from Nicklas Bendtner, Jon Dahl Tomasson and Thomas Kahlenberg gave Denmark a 3-0 win over Iceland in Copenhagen.

Italy secured top-spot in Group B after an own goal from Frodi Benjaminsen alongside two other first-half strikes from Luca Toni and Giorgio Chiellini gave them a 3-1 win over the Faroe Islands for whom Rogvi Jacobsen grabbed a late consolation.

France finished in second place after their 2-2 draw with Ukraine with Andriy Shevchenko grabbed a second-half equaliser after Thierry Henry and Sidney Govou had cancelled out Andrei Voronin's opener in the first half.

Elsewhere in the group Lithuania defeated Georgia 2-0.

Portugal booked their ticket to the finals with a 0-0 draw with Finland.
