Earthquakes name Russell Assistant Coach

The San Jose Earthquakes have agreed to terms with Ian Russell to become assistant coach of the San Jose Earthquakes for the 2008 season.

"It is great to have Ian Russell as an assistant coach especially because of the history that he has with the San Jose Earthquakes and his understanding of the game" stated Frank Yallop, head coach of the San Jose Earthquakes.

Russell spent six seasons playing for the San Jose Earthquakes after being drafted in 2000. The Seattle native played in 145 games during his six years with San Jose and won two MLS Cups in 2001 and 2003. Russell also played three games in 2007 with the Los Angeles Galaxy under coach Frank Yallop.

Prior to joining the Earthquakes, Russell played for the Seattle Sounders in 1998 and in 1999, winning the offensive MVP in 1999. Ian attended the University of Washington and was First All Pac 10 in 1994 and 1997.

Russell began coaching while playing for the Seattle Sounders and has continued coaching in the Bay Area.
