SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes announced on Thursday that the team has acquired forward Peguero Jean Philippe on loan for the remainder of the season from Danish club Brondby IF. The move is pending the receipt of his ITC. Per team and league policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"Jean Philippe is a proven goal scorer in our league and we expect him to bolster our attack," stated John Doyle, Earthquakes General Manager of Soccer Operations. "He provides a strong presence in the air and he has the ability to break down defenders so we are excited to add him to our team."
The Earthquakes used the number one spot in the allocation rankings to acquire Jean Philippe, and the team now falls to the bottom of the allocation rankings.
The Haitian native played for the Danish Superliga club Brondby IF in 2006, scoring a goal on Aug. 5 in his debut against AC Horsens. He suffered a knee injury shortly after his debut and missed the remainder of the season.
Prior to playing in Denmark, Jean Philippe, who possesses a green card, spent three seasons in Major League Soccer, playing for the Colorado Rapids and the New York Red Bulls. He joined MLS in 2004 and played just over two years with Colorado, where he appeared in 46 games and recorded 14 goals and 11 assists. In the playoffs, he appeared in five games with Colorado and scored one goal. In April 2006, he was traded to the New York Red Bulls.
During his time with the Red Bulls, he scored six goals in only 12 games, while also adding two assists. In addition, he scored two goals in a friendly match against Bayern Munich of Germany. In July of that year the Haitian forward was transferred to Danish Superliga club Brondby IF.
Jean Philippe has also been part of the Haitian National team, appearing with the team 10 times in his career. He made his debut in July 2003 on a friendly match against St. Kitts & Nevis. He has also played for the Haitian U23 National Team. He started his professional career with Don Bosco FC in Haiti.
