Dynamo's Luck addresses grads

Oliver Luck

Oliver Luck was something of an artist on the football field, and in his subsequent career fashioning Houston's sporting landscape as an executive. So the Houston Dynamo president felt right at home last Friday while serving as the keynote commencement speaker at the Art Institute of Houston's winter graduation ceremonies at the Stafford Centre.

Of his advice for the 77 graduates, Luck encouraged one thing that is easy to do, yet sometimes hard to master: the art of the smile.

"People want to be around positive people," Luck said. "There is a lot of negativism in the world...the power of the smile is tremendous."

Luck also borrowed a line from former baseball legend Satchel Paige.

"How old would you be if you didn't know how old you were," asked Luck. "To me that means you should be young at heart."

The graduates on hand appreciated Luck's advice and candor.

"He was a great speaker," said Lyle Anthony Bento, who achieved a degree in Applied Science in Culinary Arts. "I loved his speech and he really connected with the audience well."
