Dynamo U-18's win Champions Cup

The Dynamo U-18 team has won the inaugural Champions Cup. In front of a boisterous crowd at Carl Lewis Field, the Boys In Orange beat Cachorros of La Unidad 3-2 in overtime. The championship ends a tournament that featured adult and older-teenage teams throughout the region.

Cachorros opened the scoring early in the first half off a free kick by Rigobarto Monroy just outside the box.

A few minutes later, Dynamo keeper Rommel Morales fell awkwardly after a save and had to come out of the game. Field player Gerardo Gomez stepped in to play keeper until the arrival of backup keeper Cameron Wise.

Dynamo captain Samir Pena scored for the orange in the 36th minute.

About 10 minutes into the second half, Cachorros' Edwin Aguilar caught the Dynamo keeper off his line and chipped a long ball into the net for his 10th goal of the tournament. In the 71st minute, Samir Pena scored again for the Dynamo, finishing a rebound off the Cachorros keeper.

The end-to-end action of the last 20 minutes of regulation produced no goals, so the teams began two 10-minute periods of overtime. At the end of the first overtime period, Samir Pena took the ball down the right flank and passed the ball to Carlos Recinos who found the net and gave the Dynamo the lead.

Solid defense in the 2nd overtime period and a few great saves by Cameron Wise kept the Dynamo on top.

The Dynamo u18 men won the inaugural Champions Cup 3-2. The "Golden Boot" award for most tournament goals went to Cachorros' Edwin Aguilar (1o goals). Dynamo captain Samir Pena was the 2nd highest leading scorer, with six on the tournament.
