Dynamo streak nearly historic

Just over a season into the club's existence Houston Dynamo have found themselves in unique positions.

The club has won MLS Cup and put in a strong showing in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, and now the team is only one win away from doing something historic. A win on Saturday against FC Dallas would make the Dynamo only the second team in MLS history to go undefeated in the month of June. The Chicago Fire went unbeaten in June 1998.

A victory in Frisco this weekend will also make Dynamo the 11th team in MLS history to go undefeated in any month.

Despite four starting players being absent for the month of June to play with their respective national teams in the CONCACAF Gold Cup and CONMEBOL's Copa America, the Orange have still been able to overcome and continue on the road to victory.

"It's good for the franchise and locker room morale to see the guys who haven't had a lot of minutes step up. (The winning streak) gives us extra confidence, since we didn't know what these young guys could do. It also gives us much more depth," said Dynamo defender Craig Waibel.

Due to the fact that he was playing with the U.S. national team, forward Brian Ching was not able to be with Dynamo for most of the month. That doesn't curb his enthusiasm, though.

"The team has done great. I haven't been with them for most of the month, but I've been their number one fan," he said. "It's amazing because even though the team lost some of its starters, the team really bonded in our absence, and got us out of the slump we went on for the early part of the season."

Midfielder Stuart Holden is also thrilled about the possibility of reaching the milestone.

"Getting five-straight wins is good for the team, because we were missing our core guys, and we stepped up when we needed to, and pulled it out," he said. "We actually are a good team. People have doubted us this year, and the fact that we've been able to turn our season around just goes to show that the championship we won last year was not just good luck.

"We know it will be very difficult, but at the same time we are looking forward to making it six in a row this weekend against FC Dallas."
