Dynamo fans turn out for Cup match

Houston Dynamo

The wait is over. Raucous Dynamo fans turned out for a viewing party during the team's first outing in the CONCACAF Cup in Costa Rica against Puntarenas. Not even a goal in the 92nd minute of play that handed the Dynamo a 1-0 defeat in the first of two matches could dampen spirits of a large crowd of supporters at The Mezzanine Club.

Especially, the spirits of David Talbert.

Talbert, a 50-year-old Dynamo die-hard, has been battling cancer. Moments after finishing radiation treatment Wednesday morning, Talbert joined legions of fellow Texian Army members to root for his team in the first meaningful competition of 2007.

"I wouldn't have missed this for the world," said Talbert.

Many of Talbert's compatriots felt the same way, despite the end result. Alas, the Dynamo get an opportunity to get retribution in the series next Thursday (March 1) during the return match in College Station.

Talbert won't miss that match, either.
