Dynamo 1, Wizards 0 -- quote sheet

HOUSTON DYNAMO 1, KANSAS CITY WIZARDS 0

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH CURT ONALFO

On today's game:
"We created enough chances to win the game and didn't. I will say this until I am blue in the face: we will not get caught up in results. We played a good game today and fought hard. We gave up a free kick in the 81st minute and lost. All day we pushed the game, and obviously not playing for a tie. We easily could have packed it in and played for one point, but to the credit of the guys we did not. I will take the positives from this game."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS DEFENDER JIMMY CONRAD

On Ianni's goal:
"We were neck and neck, and he actually headed it and it hit my head and it went in. But I think it probably would have gone in anyway. It was just a fraction of a second, but it was something that made the difference in the game. We were there, and I thought I had it actually, but if I had it over again I would lay out and try to get there and make a dive in. Obviously it's frustrating because you get to the point where you're forcing a goal almost. It will come, for sure. But right now, good service of the runs is just not there."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS GOALKEEPER KEVIN HARTMAN

On frustration at halftime:
"I think we're a mature bunch of guys, and we realize it's not normally going to take just one or two shots to get the job done. An immature team might be frustrated if there wasn't a goal at the end of 45 minutes. But we knew it might take longer than that because they're a good team and we were prepared to compete for 90 minutes. We kept our positive attitude and we tried our hardest and unfortunately, we came up short."

On taking positives from today's game:
"You can take positive things out of anything. I read all the time on MLSnet.com about teams with one or two wins and they keep talking about the positives. For us, the positives of today were that everyone got more time and experience. But at the end of the day, it's a sport about winning games and getting points. Weeks are dictated by wins and losses, and therefore everyone wants to go out and compete to get as many wins as possible so that the quality of life is the best it can be."

HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On the game:
"It was OK, I think the weather, having midweek games, Kansas City playing at Columbus and us on Thursday at home takes a little bit of life out of our legs. I think the sun also played a factor in the game, as it affected the pace. As the game wore on, I think the guys were fatigued. But I am happy because we came out with the win and we took our chance when it was given."

HOUSTON DYNAMO DEFENDER PATRICK IANNI

On the second half:
"We tired them out as opposed to them wearing us out and dominating us in the first half. I know for me, I got my legs back in the second half. I think some guys were tired from the game on Thursday night, but during the second half we turned it around. We were getting close on set pieces with Brad Davis, and he played some pretty good balls. Then I was fortunate enough to get on the end of one of Stuart Holden's balls. It was a great ball and then we defended for the remainder of the game."

On his goal:
"Stuart (Holden) played a good ball in, I guess I was fortunate enough to get a head on it. Set pieces are a staple of our game, we've been unfortunate to not score very many this year. We work hard on them in practice and it paid off during the game."

HOUSTON DYNAMO GOALKEEPER PAT ONSTAD

On Yura Movsisyan's foul in the second half:
"I saw the ball bounce free to him and I didn't realize the official called a foul on that play. I just tried to make myself big. I don't know if it was a foul or not, it was tough for me to tell from where I was."

On Kansas City's missed opportunities:
At halftime I think they could have been up one or two goals. Scott Sealy had a good look but hooked it wide. And Jack Jewsbury had a pretty good effort. A lot of shots went around me."

On whether the defense changed throughout the game:
"I don't think it did. (Richard) Mulrooney started pushing forward, but it actually made it easier on us because we didn't have to worry about him. I thought our midfield took control of the game, Richard (Mulrooney) and Kelly (Gray) did a good job of keeping the ball forward."
