Dyanamo to rally against steroids

The Houston Dynamo, Astros, Texans and Rockets are working together in an unprecedented joint effort to urge middle and high school athletes to stay drug and steroid free.

As Texas schools prepare to implement a new state rule calling for random steroid testing, the Dynamo, Astros, Texans and Rockets will join HISD coaches and athletes to rally against steroids at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, in HISD's Delmar Field House. A poster urging middle and high school students to stay drug and steroid free will be unveiled at that time.

The "Be Smart-Stay Drug Free" poster, which will be on display at all HISD middle and high schools, features Brian Ching of the Dynamo, Carlos Lee of the Astros, Eric Winston of the Texans and Tracy McGrady of the Rockets.

Among the scheduled speakers at the event are State Representative Kyle Janek, who was a sponsor of the steroid testing bill, Dynamo President Oliver Luck and HISD Athletic Director Daryl Wade.

Among the organizations endorsing this project are the University Interscholastic League, Texas Association of School Administrators, the Texas High School Coaches Association and the Taylor Hooten Foundation Against Steroid Abuse.

The Delmar Field House is located at 2020 Mangum and is next to the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center at 4400 W. 18th.
