ZEIST - Holland moved a step closer to a bid to co-host the 2018 World Cup with Belgium after the Dutch FA (KNVB) met with representatives from Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Eindhoven about improving the stadia in the cities.

Amsterdam and Rotterdam both announced plans to build 75,000-capacity grounds while Eindhoven, which hosted the UEFA Cup final two years ago, are hoping to extend PSV's Philips Stadion.

KNVB president, Jan Sprengers, has been impressed with the support shown for the prospective bid.

"We have been encouraged to continue our investigation," he said. "With the experience of two successful events in the recent past, cities are queuing up to be part of it."

Holland hosted the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2005 and the final round of the UEFA European Under-21 Championships last year.
