Dunga claims pressure drives Brazil

Brazil coach Dunga has claimed his team play better when they have been written off by their own fans as they prepare for their World Cup qualifying opener in Colombia.

The South American giants kick off their campaign on Sunday before lining up against Ecuador in Rio de Janeiro next Wednesday.

Dunga said: "All players need to play at their highest level. When things are calm, the environment is more relaxed. When the environment gets worse, players always get more out of themselves.

"Brazilians like challenges. The bigger the challenge is, the better they play."

The Selecao showed their ability to win when unfancied by triumphing at the 2007 Copa America and 2002 World Cup.

In both championships Brazil were given little chance of success by the fans and the media, while, at the 1998 and 2006 World Cups, they went in as favourites and failed.

Dunga added all 22 players called up to the squad are in with a chance of starting against Colombia.

He said: "Time will tell who is good enough to start for the national team. I can only name 22 players and the ones here knew to make the most of the opportunities they had.

"We are giving opportunities to the guys who have proved they know how to play in the national team."
