Dominic Kinnear: Climbing the Charts

• Dominic Kinnear's MLS coaching winning percentage of .593 ranks Kinnear second all-time among MLS coaches. Only Bruce Arena at .594 has a better all-time winning percentage among coaches with 20 career wins or greater.

• Kinnear's four seasons with the Dynamo/Earthquakes gives Dominic the second-longest active tenure with a current club. Only New England's Steve Nichol (six seasons) has a longer active MLS tenure.

• In only four years as an MLS head coach, Kinnear already ranks seventh all-time in league coaching wins, with 53. Kinnear is two wins away from tying Fernando Clavijo (55) on that list and six from tying Frank Yallop (59). Bob Bradley leads the list with 124 wins.

• Among active coaches, Kinnear is sixth all-time in MLS playoff wins, with 6.

• Kinnear's 2005 winning percentage of .719 (18-4-10) ranks as one of the greatest single-season percentages in major sports history.

• Only two other MLS coaches (Arena and Frank Yallop) have won as many MLS Cup Championships as Kinnear.

• Kinnear joins select company among coaches of major sports. Since 1990, only two coaches in each major team sport have won two league championships in their first four years of taking reigns of their respective franchises. Kinnear and Arena (1996, 1997) have done this in MLS. Rudy Tomjanovich (1994, 1995) and Phil Jackson (1991-1993 Chicago, 2000-2002 LA) accomplished this feat in the NBA. Mike Shanahan (1997, 1998) and Bill Belichick (2001, 2003-2004) reached this acclaim in the NFL, and Major League Baseball's Joe Torre (1998-2000) and Terry Francona (2004, 2007) also won two or more titles in their first four years with a franchise.
