Delgado debuts for Peru vs. Bolivia

Bolivian head coach Erwin Sanchez will not call up a replacement for national veteran midfielder Joselito Vaca (top).

Peru phones Delgado
LIMA - Marcos Delgado has been called up to the Peru squad for the first time as a replacement for Rainer Torres ahead of Wednesday's international friendly against Bolivia.

Peru coach Jose Guillermo Del Solar was forced to make the change after Universitario midfielder Torres picked up an injury.

Torres twisted his left knee while training with his club side and has been ruled out of the clash at La Paz's Hernando Siles stadium.

Universitario doctor Julio Segura said: "Recovery time for this type of injury is about three weeks, so he will definitely not play for Peru."

Delgado, who plays for Sporting Cristal, will join up with his international team-mates on Monday.

He said: "The squad list was already chosen; the news came as a complete shock.

"I am very happy because this is my first time in the senior side. After the training session I was told I have to join the national team to travel with them."

Vaca withdraws from friendly vs. Peru
LA PAZ - Bolivia midfielder Joselito Vaca has withdrawn from the squad for Wednesday's friendly against Peru.

The Blooming player has been troubled by pain in his thigh since joining up, according to coach Erwin Sanchez.

"Joselito is going back to Santa Cruz de la Sierra because he has not got over (the injury) the way we needed," he said.

"We know we cannot have a player doing nothing for four or five games. It's a long time for us.

"We won't call up any replacement."

The match will be staged at La Paz's Hernando Siles stadium.
