De Rosario shines in All-Star spotlight

Dwayne De Rosario is interviewed by Rob Stone after scoring the game-winner vs. Chelsea in the 2006 All-Star game.

when are we going to take soccer seriously in Toronto?" De Rosario said. "The Toronto Lynx tried their best to put Toronto on their backs in terms of soccer. They didn't get the support they deserved in a way and it didn't help when you don't have a soccer-specific stadium."

Like many of the fans who will pack BMO Field, De Rosario is looking forward to the dream combinations on the MLS All-Star team.

"When you look at the roster, you think 'Wow, imagine if this was an actual team,'" he said. "There's a lot of great players -- playing with Blanco and Beckham is going to be a treat, playing with Donovan again like we did in San Jose, these guys understand the game. Every time you get an opportunity to be on the same field as these guys and not kicking each other, it's a fun time."

De Rosario is also looking forward to hosting a post-game party for players from both teams, an event that will raise money for Nothing But Nets, a grassroots campaign to prevent malaria by providing insect-treated bed nets.

"I'm having a party there to show the all-stars, West Ham and people in MLS that Toronto's a great city, great nightlife," De Rosario said. "It's definitely a worthy cause. It's going to be a great event with the All-Star Game and a nice time to celebrate after. Hopefully there will be a lot more celebrating after."
