D.C.'s Wilson has season-ending surgery

John Wilson today underwent successful surgery to repair his patella tendon announced D.C. United. During the 30-minute procedure, the 28-year old defender had necrotic tissue excised. Team doctor Chris Annunziata, MD performed the operation at Commonwealth Orthopaedic Associates. The rehabilitation process is expected to take between four and six months.

"Though we're disappointed that John will be lost for the season, he has been a steady performer throughout his tenure in D.C.," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "We look forward to him being back to full health and being able to contribute again."

This season, Wilson has played in 11 total matches for United, including an opening day start in defense. His last appearance for the Black-and-Red came on July 29 against Real Salt Lake. United is a combined 8-2-1 this year in matches in which Wilson appears.

A versatile left-sided player, Wilson joined the Black-and-Red last year, and almost immediately stepped into the United starting line-up. In 2005, Wilson appeared in 17 matches, starting 11 of them, and recorded the first two assists of his MLS career. He was also a key member of the United's championship-winning Reserve team, adding a goal and an assist in seven starts for the reserves.
