D.C. United's possible U.S. Open Cup pairings announced

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Soccer announced yesterday the possible third round pairings for the 2007 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. D.C. United will either go on the road to face the Harrisburg City Islanders of the United Soccer League's Second Division (USL -2) on July 11 or host the Ocean City Barons of USL's Premier Development League (PDL) in Germantown, MD on July 10. Both games would kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The game between the Islanders and the Barons will take place on June 26 at Carey Stadium in Ocean City, N.J. (7:30 p.m. ET). The Islanders beat the Aegean Hawks 4-0 in the first round to make it to the round of 32, while the Barons defeated Crystal Palace Baltimore 1-0. The Ocean City Barons are one of only two PDL teams to survive the first round.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is an annual national competition that is open to all amateur and professional soccer teams that are affiliated with U.S. Soccer. It is the oldest annual tournament in the U.S., beginning in 1914 when Brooklyn Field Club took home the very first title. MLS teams were first included in the tournament in its inaugural season of 1996, with D.C. United taking home the title. The only non-MLS team to win the tournament since 1996 was the Rochester Raging Rhinos in 1999, when they defeated the Colorado Rapids 2-0 in the final.
