D.C. United's Arguez to play in U-20 World Cup

Bryan Arguez and the U.S. U-20 national team will take on Korea, Poland and Brazil.

Washington D.C. - U.S. Soccer announced today the 21-player roster that will represent the U.S. at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada. D.C. United midfielder Bryan Arguez was included on the roster and will partake in the tournament that runs from June 30-July 22. The 21 players on the World Cup roster will arrive in Somerset, N.J. on June 17 for training before departing for Montreal. The team will also play a preparation game against Chile at Giants Stadium on June 23, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. ET

"Bryan has made steady progress with our club, and it is a big honor for him to compete on the world's stage," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "We wish Bryan and the U.S. team much success at the U-20 World Cup."

The U.S. has been placed in Group D along with Brazil, Korea, and Poland, facing Korea first on June 30 in Montreal. The team will next face Poland on July 3 in Montreal and finally, in Ottawa, will take on powerhouse Brazil on July 6. Head Coach Thomas Rongen takes the American team to its 11th FIFA U-20 World Cup, and sixth in succession. The U.S. were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Italy in the last U-20 World Cup at Netherlands, while their fourth-place finish at Saudi Arabia '89 remains their best-ever showing.

Arguez was selected by United in the first round (11th overall) of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft in January. The Miami, Florida native has already earned five caps with the U-20 team, three of which were starts, after being moved up from the U-17 U.S. Men's National Team for which he made 21 appearances, tallying a goal and three assists. He recently returned from Canada where he participated in the U-20 U.S. Men's National Team's training camp to prepare for the tournament.
