WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United forward Freddy Adu earned Sierra Mist 'Goal of the Week' honors for Week 24 foloowing his stunning free kick goal in the team's 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake on Saturday, September 9. With dead-ball specialist Christian Gomez on the bench, Adu brought the RFK crowd to its feet at the stroke of halftime, as his free-kick from 20 yards curled and dipped around the Salt Lake wall. Former United keeper Scott Garlick could only watch as the ball crashed into the top right corner of the net.

The honor marks the first time this season, and the third time in his young career, Adu has claimed the 'Goal of the Week' award. He has now won the award at least once in each of his three seasons as a professional. Adu also brought home 'Goal of the Week' honors against Real Salt Lake last season with a tremendous run from mid-field. Adu has two goals and six assists in 26 games (23 starts) this year.

Adu's strike is the sixth time this season that a D.C. United player has claimed 'Goal of the Week' honors, with six different players (Facundo Erpen, Alecko Eskandarian, Christian Gomez, Jaime Moreno, Brian Carroll, and now Freddy Adu) receiving the award. Since its inception in 2004, D.C. United have claimed Goal of the Week honors a total of 17 times, more than any other team.
